The Historic Cruiser USS Olympia is in danger of being lost forever. Financial considerations may result in the ship being sunk or scrapped.
The ship was the flagship of Admiral Dewey at the Battle of Manila during the Spanish American War. It also brought the remains of the unknown soldier home after WWI. Destroying such an icon of America borders on criminal.
The cost to save the ship is estimated at over 10 million dollars. There is a facebook page with more information about efforts to save the ship.
